Meghan has extensive experience reviewing and creating art-project proposals, can provide an insider view on how submission processes work and what proposal reviewers are looking for.

Collecting Art on a Budget

Interested to collect art but not sure where to start? Intimidated about inquiring about prices?

So many people think that art collecting takes a life time of savings and expertise in the field of art history. Not true! Art collecting requires understanding your budget, narrowing down what kind of art you like, and figuring out how you're going to find it.

We have designed a workshop that will help you:

~ Identify where you currently stand with your art collecting process. Are you just starting? Looking to grow your collection? Do you have a few pieces but not sure where to hang them or how they display together?

~ Learn how to talk about art and talk with artists to find the art you like. This includes breaking through the "intimidation barrier"

~ Define your style and needs (& wants!)

~ Review of types of artists and types of artwork to look for

~ Identify themes in your (new or growing) art collection

~ Make a budget to intentionally grow your collection. This includes costs you may not have considered and buying etiquette.

Join us for a discussion on art & art collecting. Light refreshments provided.

At the end of the workshop, two artists will join us for the last 20 minutes to discuss their art to provide you with some practice speaking to artists!

Full Moon Circle
Apr
19
7:00 PM19:00

Full Moon Circle

The Full Moon on April 19th falls directly between Libra and Scorpio: two signs that very much complement one another. The air of Libra pulls out our need for balance, but also indecisiveness and fear of being alone. Funnily she’s not alone., but sharing space tonight with Scorpio. The water element channeling energy around Scorpio promotes passion and bravery. Talk about opposites colliding… but this is a night of harmony: a main craving for both signs.

Also important is the need to focus on air and water elements during the period between Spring & Summer Equinox, periods which channel rooting down into the earth more than other elements. Therefore, tonight is also very much about balance. Seeking the balance you need internally to prepare for the change of seasons from Spring into Summer.

If you’re a Summer baby, use this moon to release energies you hibernated through the winter and seek harmony for your intentions moving forward to be fully prepared and cleansed by the time Summer Equinox rolls around.

If you’re a Winter baby, you’re probably feeling that your season passed you too quickly. Take this time to marinate on what this time has been for you. Look back at March, how were you affected during Mercury’s Retrograde? If you were thrown off course, use this time to jump back on & reclaim your time.

Fall baes: This is your dormant period – but are you still doing the work? We’re hitting your half year point – take the time to curate the balance you need. Moon manifestations are strongest 6-months later: how can this practice prepare you for October? This is especially important if you are a Libra or Scorpio!

Spring loves: this is your time to shine! Use this moment to shed a layer of skin and become reborn during your season. Curating the balance of harmony between Libra & Scorpio into your daily life is a beautiful way to start…

This gathering of water and air elements provides us an important reminder to move like water and float in the air simultaneously. Grounding may not be what you need right now, can you challenge yourself to shift to be more adaptable and flexible, rather than still & firm? Such exercises are necessary for confidence and leadership.

Join local Reiki Practitioner Cierra Ross at Eaton Wellness in the beautiful Eaton Hotel in downtown Washington DC. Eaton Wellness + Latela Curatorial is a mindfulness & healing community in the heart of Washington DC that makes space for the community-at-large to gather and manifest every New & Full Moon. Healing dialogue + practices will be shared and come to life via a meditation podcast Summer 2019.

$33 PER PERSON, $59 IF YOU BOOK IN A PAIR.

This workshop includes the following:

1 - A discussion on the astrology, chakra, and the energetic elements associated with this moon phase.

2 - A group-led meditation to align the chakras while the room & our bodies are Reiki'ed with a collection of Healing Crystals, Sound Bath, and/or Aromatherapy.

3 - A writing exercise related to seeking harmony and balance that will rejuvenate energy for your own personal confidence and leadership.

4 – A group-led Reiki relaxation session focusing on the flexibility of water and air in relation to our physical Selves.

Consider this Full Moon an opportunity to align and clear all that does not balance.

Please bring a journal and pen, and an object related to flight/air/sky if you chooes to place something on the altar during meditation (this could be a photograph, a poem, a paper with writing of goals, an object).

IS IT OKAY TO BE A MEDITATION NEWBIE?

YES! We will walk you through the basics and make sure we're focusing on the areas that best serve you during this workshop and its greater themes.

WHAT IS YOGA NIDRA?

Yoga Nidra, derived from an ancient Tantra yoga practice, is a simple and efficient way to deeply relax while remaining conscious to reduce anxiety, stress, and insomnia. It is a kind of mediation performed lying down in savasana and is suitable for all ages and abilities. During the practice, we sink into the parasympathetic nervous system and enter the hypnogogic state, the state between being awake and being asleep. When we stay in this place for 20 minutes it is the equivalent of 4 hours of sleep.

The Yoga Nidra process is a voice-guided meditation that includes a body focusing exercise that creates a circuit of energy in the motor cortext to relax the brain, some breath and sound awareness practices, and some visualization activities.

SOME OTHER BENEFITS OF YOGA NIDRA:

1. Improve focus, clarity, creativity, and productivity

2. Deeply relax to reduce physical, psychological, and emotional tension

3. "Weed the garden" by release stored memories and traumas from your subconscious

4. Recover from injury, surgery, jet lag, or too many late nights

New Moon in Pisces Circle

The New Moon in Pisces hits us at the begining of Mercury Retrograde, which will stir amongst us for the majority of the month of March (specifically from March 6-28).

The New Moon is technically Wednesday, but let's gather a day after to really marinate on what's coming up as Mercury's Retorgrade matures an extra day...

When Mercury is in Retrograde, you'll want to think about ALL of your options... even some you've eliminated & others that have not presented themselves yet. This is not the time to make any hasty decisions: this is the time to sit and let everything stir up around you.

Not only is this a wonderful time to practice patience and learn how to be an observer (rather than forcing control)... but Pisces sign very much maginifies this very message: move like water around obstacles and become flexible, rather than rigid.

Every new moon is about setting new intentions. This circle, we will focus on that which we wish we could control but cannot.

Join local Energy Healer & Reiki Practitioner Cierra Rossy for a gathering that will promote healthy expectations and and intuition connectability.

This circle will take place at Latela Curatorial.

$39 PER PERSON, $60 IF YOU BOOK IN A PAIR.

This workshop includes the following:

1 - A discussion on the astrology, chakra, and the energetic elements associated with this moon phase.

2 - A group-led meditation to align the chakras while the room & our bodies are Reiki'ed with a collection of Healing Crystals, Sound Bath, or Aromatherapy.

3 - A journaling session with prompts to set intentions and reflect upon them.

Consider this New Moon an opportunity to re-evalute your own methodology for setting intentions and discover patience and flexibility through practice.

CATALOGUES, PROPOSALS & CONTRACTS FOR ARTISTS + CURATORS

Business Development for Artists and Curators

Artists and curators very seldom get “discovered” without lifting a finger. Any artist who is busy with client work and/or exhibiting around the globe will tell you that most of their time spent is submitting proposals and populating spreadsheets with opportunities and deadlines.

Let’s get real: you need a sexy inventory and artist catalogue, a method to proposing, and a strategy for streamlining all of those potential opportunities out there. Also, you probably need a moment to ask yourself: are you proposing to galleries, corporate clients, or both?

Spend an afternoon with Marta Staudinger, owner of Latela Art + Curatorial Consulting Firm and Latela Art Gallery. As an art professional who has exhibited more than 200 local artists in the past four years as well as a practicing artist, Marta has experience from both sides of the creative and business fences to provide an insider view on how submission processes work and what proposal reviewers are looking for.

In this workshop you’ll learn:

- How to vision board & understand what kind of art opportunities you want (corporate clients, murals, gallery exhibitions, a combination, etc).

- Key points in cataloguing/inventory practices that are necessary for proposals and submitting artwork

- How to create your artist catalogue to show your work to potential clients at the click of a button

- Key points in proposals (for corporate projects, murals, and exhibitions)

- Key points to contracts (for corporate projects, murals, and exhibitions)

- Key points to getting into galleries & the bloody truths about gallery representation

This workshop is ideal for all levels of artist, curator & creative professionals.

You’ll leave this workshop with templates + action steps to begin working smarter, protect yourself with contracts & propose to the right potential partners and clients.

Tickets: $55 | $95 for two

SUPER FULL MOON IN VIRGO CIRCLE

The Super Full Moon is on Tuesday, February 19th and this one is going to affect most of us rather strongly. A Super Moon takes place when the Full Moon is closest to the Earth in the moon’s elliptical orbit. Our more obvious relationship with the Super Moon is we experience that the moon appears about 14% larger to us than normal, and about 30% brighter. Whether you have a regular moon manifestation practice or not, we all feel the potency of the moon when it’s orbiting closest to us and our earth’s tides…

But not all of her effects are that easy to spot – nor are they immediate! This moon in particular is in Virgo which is an earth sign. It is suggested while the moon is more potent (via its proximity) & in this particular sign that one stays home in a comfortable/intimate space and manifests alone. Just you and the moon. Listening. Writing. Breathing. Howling, maybe?

We will be gathering the night before the moon’s proximity has fully hit our Earth, to use the warmth buildup of Virgo + our intentions set in circle together to channel our most personal, intuitive intentions throughout the rest of Winter when we actually sit alone the following night for the Full Moon. This circle will focus on the “I AM” narrative – something we all tend to lose sight of in Winter.

Channeling our inner Virgos, the aftermath of a potent moon (& much needed time alone), you will be  guided through a Meditation & Reiki that will align your chakras and restore your self-talk.

Additionally, the current zodiac sign is Pisces: a water sign. After a discuss on this past moon’s affects, how to use that energy, and how to follow what we intuited on our own during the moon’s super passing-by… we will close our manifestation with a Yoga Nidra focused on the flexibility of water to revisit our 2019 intentions and find balance between the still stream v. floods in our own productivity patterns and relationships.

Join local Latela Curatorial Founder & Director Marta Staudinger and Energy Healer & Reiki Practitioner Cierra Ross for a gathering that will promote healthy self-reflections, goal manifestations, and intuition connectability.

3 - A group Yoga Nidra focused on the flexibility of water to revisit our 2019 intentions and find balance between the still stream v. floods in our own productivity patterns and relationships.

Consider this Full Moon an opportunity to reset, dig the deepest for the 2019 intentions you set at the start of the year, and also manifest flexibility.

FAQs

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Please bring a journal and pen, and an object related to you that is a representation of the YOU that you want to channel in 2019  (this could be a photograph, a vision board, a paper with writing of goals).

WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki, meaning ‘Universal Energy’ is an ancient and natural energy healing technique where the practitioner serves as a vessel to balance the subtle energies within our bodies. During a Reiki session, the practitioner uses a light touch to channel universal energy to a patient’s body.

The purpose of Reiki Healing is to promote relaxation and stress reduction as well as restore balance and eliminate blockages. This process addresses physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imbalances as well as aligns the chakras.

Benefits of Reiki include:
- Stress reduction
- Chakra (energy center) alignment
- Restores energy level balance throughout the body
- Improves concentration and perception/intuition
- Eliminates energy blockages
- Provides relaxation
- Assists with healing injuries
- Enhances immune system

IS IT OKAY TO BE A MEDITATION/REIKI NEWBIE?

YES! We will walk you through the basics and make sure we're focusing on the areas that best serve you during this workshop and its greater themes. This is why we keep circles small and have two leaders to be able to individually assist as well.

Super Blood Wolf Moon

Queue in the theatrics! This month’s Super Blood Wolf Moon will be a full moon to remember. In its “Super” state the full moon will be so close to the Earth you will want to reach out and touch it! Then with a total eclipse slated for the same time, we’ll watch that same big, bright moon turn red!

Eclipses have a way of bringing darkness to the light so brace yourself for theatrics on our Earth realm too. This eclipse is the third and final eclipse in a series of 3, with the other two eclipses being Feb 10, 2017 and August 21, 2017. Look to these dates to zoom in on areas of focus in your life. Consider this moon eclipse as a finale. Expect closure and ah-ha moments to situations that started to present themselves earlier last year. Patience will be our key focus as anxiety and uncertainty are associated with the wolf moon, and don’t be surprised if this full moon presents the inner werewolf in you.

In this circle we will root down into the earth and conjure patience and understanding to get us through this dramatic moon phase.

Join local Energy Healer & Reiki Practitioner Cierra Rossy for a gathering that will promote clarification through Meditation, Intention-Setting, and cleansing through Reiki.

This special gathering is usually limited to 8-10 participants & is hosted monthly. This moon circle takes place at the Latela Curatorial Office & Gallery.

Tea, treats & gifts always included :)

$39 PER PERSON, $60 IF YOU BOOK IN A PAIR.
