Testimony: Curatorial Apprenticeship | Genevieve Keillor

Hello! My name is Genevieve Keillor and I recently graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Art History. Over the summer (2018), I had the wonderful opportunity to work as a Curatorial Apprentice at Latela Curatorial in their gallery space. As a Curatorial Apprentice, I was able to curate an exhibition titled Dimensions: A Collage Exhibition with the amazing guidance of Marta Staudinger. Through this process, I learned how to communicate with artists effectively, pick specific artworks based on aesthetic, and design an exhibition with the dimensions of a space. Having the opportunity to curate this exhibition helped me express my curatorial voice, meet incredible local artists, and understand the functioning of a private commercial art gallery and consultation service. I will always cherish my experience with Latela Curatorial and Marta and highly encourage others who are interested in exploring their curatorial skills to explore this opportunity!!
